Two arrested on drug charges

POCAHONTAS - Two people are facing drug and alcohol charges after being pulled over by a Pocahontas County sheriff's deputy.

The arrests came Friday night after a deputy saw a car driving on the wrong side of the road, according to a press release from the Pocahontas County sheriff's office.

The deputy pulled over the car and began questioning the driver, Aaron Goeders, 37, of Pocahontas.

During questioning, the deputy noticed the smell of alcohol and burnt marijuana coming from the car. When deputies searched the vehicle, they allegedly found marijuana, open containers of alcohol and drug paraphernalia.

Goeders was charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense, possession of marijuana, third offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open container of alcohol.

His passenger, Amber Baas, 31, of Pocahontas, was also charged with possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol.

Both Goeders and Baas have been released from the Pocahontas County Jail.

Coon Rapids man facing drug charges

POCAHONTAS - What started as an investigation into a traffic accident led to deputies in Pocahontas County arresting a man on drug charges.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, deputies were sent to 530th Street, just west of Pocahontas, for a report about a car in the ditch. When deputies arrived, they found a man, identified as Kevin D. Olson, 46, of Coon Rapids, standing next to the car, according to a press release from the Pocahontas County sheriff's office.

As deputies questioned Olson, who denied being the car's driver, they discovered he had a white powdery substance on him, which was believed to be methamphetamine.

Olson was arrested on one count of possession of methamphetamine and taken to the Pocahontas County Jail.

Once in the jail, the press release said even more meth was found on Olson. This led to him being charged with possessing and introducing contraband into a jail. He's also been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Olson is being held in the Pocahontas County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
