FONDA - Frances Catherine Sebben, age 89, of Fonda, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will take place Friday, January 17, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fonda Public Library or Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Catherine Brown was born June 12, 1924 in Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Johnson) Brown. As a child, she was baptized and confirmed.

Growing up, Frances attended grade school in rural schools. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1940. Following high school graduation, she furthered her education where she received a Teaching Certificate.

On February 19, 1945 Frances was united in marriage to Tony Sebben in Bethesda, Maryland. Together they were blessed with six children: Virginia, Linda, John, Catherine, Mary Jo, and David.

Frances spent most of her life as a teacher. During World War II, Frances worked at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. She then worked at the Fonda Public Library for several years.

Frances was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Frances had a passion for reading books and shopping. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ginny (Jim) Condon of Fonda, Iowa; Linda (Larry) King of Omaha, Nebraska; John (Carole) Sebben of Storm Lake, Iowa; Kay Sebben of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jo (Layne) Hasenbank of Fonda, Iowa; David (Laurie) Sebben of Omaha, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers: Warren (Marilynne) Brown of Seattle, Washington; David (Jan) Brown of Johnston, Iowa; sister, Martha Allen of Russell, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Carrie Mae Brown of Chariton, Iowa; Pat (Jerry) Schebler of Davenport, Iowa; brother-in-law, John (Tina) Sebben of Rock Island, Illinois; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Sebben; her parents, Charles and Gladys Brown; and two brothers, Albert and Norman Brown.
