Gidel — 90 years old

ROCKWELL CITY — Harriet “Hat” Gidel, of Rockwell City, celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday.
Her family includes Steve and Barbara Gidel, of North Twin Lakes; Dave and Mary Gidel, of South Twin Lakes; Jayne and Steve Hamilton, of Centennial, Colo.; and Jacqueline Dawson, of Scottsdale, Ariz. She has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Husband Dale is deceased.
She graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1941 and attended the University of Iowa where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She married Dale Gidel on April 24, 1944. They lived in Dallas, Texas, but moved to Rockwell City in 1947 and to Twin Lakes in 1972. The construction and operation of Briarwood Golf Course took them to Ankeny in 1995. They retired in 1998 to Banning, Calif., and later to Sun City West, Ariz., before returning to Rockwell City in 2004. She is on the Rockwell City Library board, Reading Circle and is a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
