The proposed 2014-2015 budget will be a major focus for Fort Dodge City Council members when they meet Monday.
The council meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., with a budget workshop. A preview of the general fund, the property tax account that pays for police and fire protection plus some other government functions, will be presented by the city staff. Also, the proposed budget for the Business Affairs and Community Growth Department will be reviewed.
Those budgetary items were to be covered during a Jan. 6 meeting that was postponed due to bad weather.
The council's regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
During that meeting the elected officials will consider awarding a paving contract for street work to be done this year. Fort Dodge Asphalt submitted the lone bid of about $1.2 million.
The council members are also expected to start the process of ending city ownership of Fourth Avenue North between 10th and 11th streets to support the conversion of Phillips Middle School into apartments.
Following the business meeting, another budget workshop will be held at which the spending plans for the police and fire departments will be presented.
