MANSON - Jeanette Davis, 82, went peacefully to Heaven with her family by her side on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society - Manson. A Mass of Christian burial will be said on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson, with Fr. Brian Danner and Fr. Richard Ries concelebrating. Visitation will be at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer vigil at 6 p.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Manson.
Jeanette Ann Heid was born on May 30, 1931, at Pocahontas, IA, the daughter of Orie E. and Florence (McClain) Heid. She attended country school near Pocahontas, and moved with her family to Barnum in the fifth grade. She graduated from Johnson Consolidated School in Barnum in 1948. She went on to attend Mt. St. Clair College in Clinton, IA, where she received her teaching degree. On June 14, 1952, she was united in marriage with Don L. Davis at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Barnum. Jeanette spent the next several years making a home for herself and Don and their eight children. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Manson Good Samaritan Center for 20 years. As a final career, she and Don managed Golden Meadows Apartments in Manson for 5 1/2 years before finally retiring.
Jeanette will be mourned by her husband of almost 62 years Don; children Gary (Melinda) Davis of Gilbert, AZ; Deb (Joe) Schreier; Susan (Mike) McGregor; Kathy (Neil) Oswald, all of Manson, IA; Tim (Suzanne) Davis of West Des Moines, IA; Kristine (Todd) Johnson of Menomonee Falls, WI; Nancy (Stan) Smith of West Linn, OR; Jennifer (Cameron) Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, June Lawler of Clare, IA; Lori (Dick) Wignall of Fort Dodge, IA; Lavonne "Peanie" Ward of Stockton, CA; Sr. Mary Corita Heid, R.S.M. of Mason City, IA; Marge (Dave) Ipsan of Cedar Rapids, IA; Nancy (Bob) Garretson of Decatur, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack and Kenny Heid; sister Joan Davis; and son-in-law Dave Fitzgerald. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be left to their discretion.
