Easy hoops came early and often for the St. Edmond girls basketball team on Friday night.

In their first game since the holiday break, the fifth-ranked (Class 2A) Gaels (8-0 overall, 7-0 in the league) trounced Eagle Grove by a 71-15 final at the SEHS gym.

"I thought we shared the ball pretty well (last night) and pushed it up and down the floor even off (the Eagle) made shots," St. Edmond head coach Scott Messerly said. "We also changed things up a little defensively and got contributions from a lot of different people. It was just a good team effort all the way around."

Alli Huss, a senior forward, poured in a career-high 29 points for the Gaels, including 19 in the first half. Huss, who finished 14-for-17 from the field, also grabbed seven rebounds. Juniors Jaci Stumpf (14) and Anna Yung (10) each reached double figures in scoring as well for the green and white.

"Alli, Jaci and Anna have been real consistent for us all year, but Clare (Flattery) and Drue (Specht) gave us a big lift off the bench (Friday), too," said Messerly. "It was just nice to get back out (on the court) after the break and finally play someone else besides ourselves."

St. Edmond was never threatened after building a commanding 28-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Nineteen of the 23 made Gael field goals in the opening half actually came on layups. SEHS, which had nine different players score at least two points, also held a decisive 25-8 edge on the glass.
