George Stanley Curry was born January 21, 1931 on a farm near Rolfe, Iowa to George P. and Esther (Bradbury) Curry. His family moved to Bradgate when George was 5 years old. He attended schools there and graduated from Bradgate High School in 1948. George joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952, served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. Later that year George was united in marriage to Shirley Rapple. The couple were blessed with five children. They lived on the family farm for several years before moving to a farm near Rutland. In 1990 George and Shirley purchased the Stephen Taft House Humboldt, which they restored and operated as a bed and breakfast inn. In 2007 they moved to 609 5th St. N. in Humboldt where George lived until his death. George farmed until 1975. He and his partner Elven Dornath worked in construction until George retired.

George was an avid reader. He finished hundreds if not thousands of books, some over and over. He enjoyed playing and teaching baseball. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and attended many events involving his children and grandchildren.

Those remaining to cherish George's memory include his wife of 59 years, Shirley; son Steve (Kathy) Curry of Humboldt; daughter Cindy (Dave) Presler of Ankeny; son Randy (Cheryl) Curry of Humboldt; grandchildren Jason (Sarah) Curry, Aaron (Stef) Curry, Anne (Jebb) Garrison, Dustin Presler, Dan Presler, Katie Presler, Drew Presler, Michael (Kirstin) Curry, Josh Curry, and Lindsey Curry; siblings Owen Curry of LuVerne, Howard (Irene) Curry of Bode, Marilyn Johnson of LeMars, Phyllis (Earl) Brabec, Nebraska, Jerry (Vivian) Curry, South Carolina, Richard "Dick" (Becky) Curry, Missouri; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding George in death were his parents, infants sons Michael and David, infant sister Gladys, and sister Jeanette Mikolasko.

The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of services.
