Norman Lee Pingel, 80, of Fort Dodge passed away on Thursday December 26, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Norman was born in Fort Dodge on March 13, 1933 to Charles and Naomi (Sterling) Pingel. He attended Fort Dodge Schools and then entered the Air Force, serving from 1952 to 1956. He married Janet Kruger in 1955 and later divorced, Wilma Arndt in 1963 and later divorced and Beverly White in 1971. He worked for Standard Engineering, Bush Hog, Poverty Gulch Gas Station, W&H Co-op in Badger, IA and Trinity Regional Medical Center as the grounds keeper from 1981 until retiring in 1997. He enjoyed traveling, fixing clocks especially cuckoo clocks, wood carving, crafting, gardening, flowers and lawn care.
Norman is survived by his wife Beverly; daughters Holly (Gary) Owen of AR, Heather Pingel of AR, Patricia Pingel of Fort Dodge, Alison Ferry of Gowrie, IA and Suzette Dwight of Fort Dodge; step-sons Douglas White of CA, Mark White of Fort Dodge and Terry White of Farragut, IA; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; his brother Phillip Pingel of Fort Dodge; sisters Doris Pingel of Fort Dodge and Sylvia Miklo of ID. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Naomi Pingel; brothers Sterling "Gene" Pingel, Fredrick Pingel and Jon "Jack" Pingel; his sister Rose Mary Johnson; sons Paul Lee Pingel and Norman Charles Pingel; daughter Hope Rajean Pingel; grandson Joseph Murphy and granddaughters Heidi Marie Pingel and Alisa Ferry.
