MASON CITY - The Fort Dodge girls basketball team couldn't get back on track Friday night, dropping a 75-51 decision to No. 9 (Class 5A) Mason City.

Trailing by just five points at the half, the Dodgers (4-3 overall, 1-1 in the CIC Northern Division) were outscored 39-20 after the break.

"(The Mohawks) just came out on fire in the second half," said FDSH head coach Scott Timmerman. "We actually felt like we could've been ahead at the half if we did a better job of boxing out.

"We had defensive breakdowns that kind of hurt us. I also thought we rushed our first few possessions in the second half that led to 3-on-1 breaks going the other way."

Senior Tiana Mericle delivered 14 points - on 7-for-8 shooting - and eight rebounds for the Dodgers.

Ashley Altman (12) and Mallory Kilian (11) each scored in double figures as well for Fort Dodge.
