CEDAR RAPIDS - The 17th-ranked Iowa Central women couldn't find an answer for No. 2 ranked Kirkwood on Tuesday night.
The Tritons (9-2 overall, 0-1 ICCAC) found themselves down early in the first half and down 17 in the second half and couldn't dig out of a hole, dropping an 85-78 decision to the Eagles (10-1, 1-0).
"We got behind early and cut it to seven, but couldn't get over the hump,'' said Iowa Central head coach Craig Carlson. "We burried ourselves coming out of the gate in the second half and you can't do that against the second-ranked team in the nation.''
Babaye Ojay turned in a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.
Milliakere Koyamainavure led the Tritons with 18 points. St. Edmond graduate Lydia Harvey had 14 points and Katie Dentling added 13.
