Bickford Assisted Living will reach out to some of the area's older population who may not have the opportunity to get away from home to celebrate this holiday season.
The annual Elves for the Elderly program at Bickford kicks off Sunday during the Yuletide celebration and luminaria display, beginning at 6 p.m.
The evening will feature a dessert buffet, musical entertainment, visits with Santa Claus and a display of lighted luminary bags outdoors.
"It will be a fun evening open to the community," said Cheryl Sherry, community relations director at Bickford Assisted Living.
Bickford will also accept donations for Elves for the Elderly.
Donations will be accepted at Bickford Assisted Living, 1536 20th Ave. N., through Dec. 22 when they will be packaged and distributed to recipients through various organizations such as Meals on Wheels.
Items needed for the gift bags include lap blankets, large print books, magazines, word search and crossword books, hard candies and toiletries.
"We have a goal of sending out 100 gift bags this year," Sherry said.
Items should be new and may be dropped off unwrapped.
"This is one of the ways we give to the community," said Sherry. "There is so much meant for giving to kids this time of year, but not really as much for the elderly. Our residents enjoy helping out and giving back to their community and peers."
