The Brushy Creek Chapter of the American Red Cross is asking the community to sign greeting cards for military veterans and their families today.

Red Cross volunteers will be at the Crossroads Mall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with cards available for the public to sign. The cards will be shipped to a military base in Germany for distribution.

"The holidays can be a lonely time for our men and women in the military," said Bob Kirschbaum, Red Cross chapter resource officer. "That's why this project is so important, and we hope members of the Fort Dodge community will help brighten the days of our men and women in the military."

Holiday Mail for Heroes is a nationwide program, and last year, more than 1.8 million cards were distributed to the troops and their families. For more than 130 years, the Red Cross has provided comfort and support to members of the United States military.
