A: The candy store at the shopping mall in Fort Dodge had closed, and Terry Rich decided this represented an opportunity to open Candies & More.

Q:What is Candies & More's niche?

A: A variety of high-quality candies can be purchased in any quantity, including by the piece. Candies & More carries items from Abdallah Candies, which has supplied fine chocolates for 105 years. Candies & More also offers something for everyone, from triple-dipped malted milk balls to pecans with dark chocolate and amaretto flavor. In addition, the shop features specialty candies at the holidays, including peppermint almond bark, divinity, fudge, peanut brittle and more. If you don't come in, you don't get a treat!

Q:How many full-time employees do you have?

A: Terry Rich is the proprietor at his shop at 819 Central Avenue, and his family helps out, as needed.

Q:What do you like about being located in downtown Fort Dodge?

A: The rent is affordable, and it's exciting to see a lot more businesses open here. We're starting to work together on special promotions, like Black Wednesday, when businesses stayed open late right before Thanksgiving for holiday shopping.
