Change of venue hearing continued

A hearing to determine whether the trial of two Fort Dodge men should be moved out of Webster County was delayed Monday after one of the defendants didn't secure an attorney.

Tanner J. King, 23, and Gregory P. White, 24, are facing multiple charges for allegedly burning down Bemrich Electric & Telephone Inc. and burglarizing the American Red Cross Training Center on June 21.

White has requested a change of venue, and King has joined in that request.

The hearing, which was scheduled for Monday, was moved because White had not hired an attorney, though he told Judge Thomas Bice that he has visited with one.

Bice scheduled a special court date for Dec. 23 to hear arguments for and against the motion.

He made it clear that this will be the last time the hearing will be delayed.

"On the 23rd, everybody will be locked and loaded and ready to get down to business," Bice said. "It's time we moved this case forward. This court's patience has run thin."

King and White have both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
