Standoff causes lockdown at Eagle Grove High School

No injuries reported; suspect is in custody

EAGLE GROVE - A standoff in Eagle Grove led to lockdown of Eagle Grove High School Monday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Wright County Sheriff's office, around 1:29 p.m., Eagle Grove police were called to 115 N. Cadwell, Eagle Grove, to deal with a "barricaded subject." At 4:02 p.m., David Verba surrendered peacefully to law enforcement officers.

No one was injured during the standoff.

During the standoff, the high school was under lockdown because it was close to the scene.

Verba has been charged with three counts of assault and is being held at the Wright County jail on $2,000 bond.

Officers from the Wright County Sheriff's Department, Clarion Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and Eagle Grove EMS assisted the Eagle Grove Police Department.
