INWOOD - No. 6 Bishop Garrigan's seven-game winning streak was halted by top-ranked West Lyon in a Class A state quarterfinal on Friday.
Held in check offensively, the Golden Bears (9-3 overall) dropped a 21-7 decision.
Brayton Loss scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter for Garrigan's lone touchdown. Loss also kicked the PAT.
As a team, the Golden Bears were limited to just 93 total yards - 50 rushing and 43 passing - and three first downs.
Defensively, Garrigan pitched a shutout in the second half. Ben Vaske recorded 23 tackles for the Golden Bears, while Chris Loss added 15 stops.
The Wildcats (12-0) compiled 321 offensive yards and 20 first downs.
Garrigan was making its 10th straight postseason trip under head coach Marty Wadle. Brayton Loss, Chris Loss, Connor Langerman, David Klein, Corey Weydert, Bailey Kohlhaas, Neal Koob and Michael Berke each played their last football game for the Golden Bears.
With the victory, the Wildcats improved to 40-20 all-time in the postseason. West Lyon previously captured 1A state titles in 1998, 1999 and 2010.
No. 4 Avoca AHST (12-0) now awaits the Wildcats in a Class A semifinal on Friday. Kickoff is set for 1:06 p.m. at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
