Iowa Central needs strong football finish

The Iowa Central football team controls their own destiny over the next two weeks.

Win both games and they will qualify for another postseason bowl game in Cedar Falls.

That mission starts here on Saturday against arch-rival Ellsworth inside Dodger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Tritons (3-5 overall, 1-5 in the MFC) were defeated by College of DuPage last week, 16-3.

"We still have a say in how we're going to finish our season and where we're going to go," ICCC head coach Kevin Twait said. "Win both and we are in at 5-5 and headed to the UNI-Dome.

"There is a lot riding on this game and our guys are really pumped up."

Some injuries have hit Iowa Central hard, as they lost two members of the secondary and another center. Along the offensive line, this will be the sixth center to snap the ball for the Tritons.

"I've never had that happen to one position. Ever," Twait said. "Now, with us being in the pistol offense, it makes things a little interesting."

Kendall Jackson, a freshman, continues to grow week by week. Jackson has completed 51 percent of his passes for 517 yards and 13 touchdowns, throwing just four interceptions.

Sophomores Trentan Bledsoe (36-263) and Brandynn Clark (14-259) are his top targets. DeShawn Johnson, another sophomore, has ran for a team-high 441 yards on the year.

"This is the last home game for our sophomores and we want to send them out in style," Twait said. "Plus, you have to protect your home turf.

"Ellsworth got us earlier this year, so we want some revenge on them."

The Panthers are 2-6 and 1-5.
