Rick was born September 24, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The son of Darwin and Darlene (Beddow) Rummel, he was raised and attended school in Fort Dodge. On January 1, 1971 Rick married his sweetheart, LaVonne Jakobitz, at First Church of the Nazarene in Fort Dodge and to this union had two children, Chad and Dawn. That same year he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp where he served overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1975, Rick returned to work as a mechanic for his father's service station, Northside 66. Later he and LaVonne owned and operated their current business, Riverside Auto Repair & Canoe Rental, in Otho.
Rick had a huge heart and he often times worked for free just to give a helping hand to someone in need. To several family members he was known as "Uncle Rick". He truly enjoyed being a grandfather and traveling to watch the grandkid's basketball games. What he truly loved most was his wife of over 42 years and quality time spent with family and friends.
