Goals came early and often once again for the Iowa Central women's soccer team here Sunday.
In command throughout, the 14th-ranked (NJCAA Div. I) Tritons (9-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the ICCAC) blanked Scott by a 7-0 final on a cool and rainy afternoon at Rogers Sports Complex.
Karolina Garcia found the back of the net twice for Iowa Central, while Michelle Landeiro, Geovana Alves, Ebony Campbell, Mary Richards and Julia Da Silva all added one score. Five of Iowa Central's tallies came before the break.
"I was very happy with how we played (yesterday)," ICCC head coach Christiane Lessa said. "No one in our conference had scored more than five goals on (the Eagles) yet this year before us. We really kept our composure, too, which is how you show respect to the opponent."
Campbell also dished out a pair of assists, and Landeiro and Da Silva each delivered one helper.
Freshman keeper Bruna Prates contributed five saves for the Tritons, as well, including one on a penalty kick.
"We've been working so hard, and we're definitely a much more united team this year," said Lessa. "At the same time, we still need to keep improving our ball movement and communication on the field."
Iowa Central registered 20 shots on goal compared to only five for Scott (4-9, 1-4).
On the season, the Tritons have now outscored their foes by a decisive combined margin of 56-7. Six of Iowa Central's victories this year have actually come via shutout.
Since the start of the 2001 campaign, Iowa Central has prevailed over the Eagles 29 straight times.
Next outing for Iowa Central is Wednesday at Maple Woods (1-8). Action begins at 3 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
