POCAHONTAS - Raymond A. Williams - age 86, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa, with Pastor David Grindberg officiating.
Burial will be in Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday, Oct. 8th at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Raymond Albert Williams was born January 24, 1927 in Casey, Iowa to Alfred and Tessie (Kromrie) Williams. He graduated from Casey Community School in the spring of 1945. In the spring of 1946 he moved with his parents to a farm near Farnhamville, IA. In 1948 he moved to Curlew to farm with Earl Dahl. In 1949 he moved to a farm near Pocahontas to help his parents farm and raise livestock. Ray was drafted into the Army in 1951, serving in Germany until December 1952. Following his discharge from the Army, Ray returned to Pocahontas to farm with his parents.
On March 15, 1956, he married Althea McCullough DeWall at Webster City, IA. At the time of their marriage, Ray became the step-father of Althea's seven children. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Pocahontas. To this union, 4 children were added to the family. The couple moved into Pocahontas in 1976 and continued farming until 1986 when they retired.
Ray enjoyed road-side farming, visiting with everyone, telling his grandchildren his life stories, bowling, playing cards, trips to the casino, fishing and hunting. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his children, Diane (Mike) Mahn, Auburn, IA; Roger (Kirsten) Williams, Fort Dodge, IA; Nancy (Heather Masten) Williams, San Antonio, TX; step-children, Linda (Bob) Eshleman, Tallahassee, FL; Lois Theiler, Woodbridge, VA; Lorretta (Denny) Callon, Rolfe, IA; Raymond (Arlene) DeWall, Pocahontas, IA; George (Jan) DeWall, Glenwood, IA; Larry DeWall, Perry, IA; Alice DeWall, Emmetsburg, IA; daughter-in-law, Carol Williams, Pocahontas, IA; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; and brothers, Bruce (Donna) Williams, Ankeny, IA and Dean (Sherry) Williams, Pocahontas, IA. Also several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Althea, son, Norman and son-in-law, Fred Theiler.
