GRANGER - Judd Gibb has a penchant for making wins in major Iowa PGA events appear to be easy.

The Fort Dodge Country Club professional laughed at the notion, saying looks can definitely be deceiving.

Gibb captured the fourth Iowa PGA Shootout championship of his career at Jester Park Golf Course here Tuesday, wrapping up a two-stroke victory over Chris Black and Darin Fisher. He carded rounds of 70 and 71 to finish at three-under par 141.

''It means a lot to me, especially given it's the last major of the year and the fact that I haven't been able to play and practice as much since moving back to Fort Dodge (and taking over at the FDCC),'' said Gibb, who also earned Shootout titles in 1998, 2006 and 2009. ''As time goes on and I get older, I?gain greater appreciation for these (victories). I wasn't sure if I was ready for the mental grind of a (two-day tournament) like this, and with the state senior match play at the Club last week, I didn't have a lot of time to get ready.

''It's definitely a great way to finish (the season). I know I've won a few of these in the past, but it had actually been a while so it's nice to know I can still compete with the big boys.''

Gibb, a five-time Iowa PGA section player of the year, said he ''putted very well, which was key'' to his triumph at Jester Park.

''It was really windy on Monday, but the conditions were perfect (Tuesday) and Jester was in very good shape,'' said Gibb, a former Fort Dodge Senior High and Iowa State University standout. ''A lot of players were commenting on the fast greens, but compared to (the FDCC), I thought they were actually a little slower. So that worked to my advantage.

''(Jester Park) played tough and it's a lot longer than it used to be. They've done a nice job of improving it in recent years.''

The Iowa Shootout is flanked by the Iowa PGA section match play, the section championship and the Iowa Open on the state's major list. Black (match play), Aaron Krueger (section) and Sean McCarty (Iowa Open) were the other major winners this year.

Gibb's victory on Tuesday automatically qualifies him for the Chicago Open, held Oct. 7-9.
