NEWS: The grain elevator in Woolstock was gearing up for harvest one year after an explosion injured three people and damaged the facility.

SPORTS: The Iowa Central volleyball team beat Ellsworth 3-1 in the ICCAC season opener.

NEWS: Sister Mary Frances Sexton celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Sister of Charity, BVM, with a Mass of Thanksgiving.

SPORTS: Good, Bad and Bob beat Groff's Sporting Goods 5-2 in B League coed softball.

Sept. 9, 1963

NEWS: Pete Hart, of Emmetsburg, was appointed to the Emmetsburg City Park Commission.

SPORTS: Two Humboldt bowlers, Vern Mangle and Roger Isaacson, escaped injury when a large rock smashed through the roof of the Star Lanes bowling alley into the alley they were using. The rock was thrown about a half mile from the Fort Dodge Limestone Co. quarry where a crew was blasting.
