VFW?offers essay contest to students

The VFW Post 1856 Auxiliary is sponsoring an essay-writing contest for all students in sixth through 12th grades. Home-schooled children are also welcome to participate.

Students in grades nine through 12 are invited to enter the Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Competition on "Why I'm Optimistic About Our Nation's Future."

Students in grades six through eight may enter the Patriot's Pen youth essay-writing contest by writing "What Patriotism Means to Me."

Winners will be awarded money prizes. Their essays will advance from local, to district, state, and national competitions.

Entry forms are available at VFW Post No. 1856. Submissions are due by Nov. 1. For more information call Sandra Jordison at 972-4910 or the VFW at 955-4986.
