Wildcats shut out Titans

LAKE CITY - Brady Ross and Nikko Wheeler each scored touchdowns in the second half to lift Humboldt past South Central Calhoun Friday night, 14-0.

Ross, who ran for 97 yards on 27 carries, found the end zone with 40 seconds left in the third quarter for the first points of the game.

Wheeler added the final TD with 50 seconds remaining in the game. He had 51 yards on the ground.

"South Central Calhoun played a great defensive game," Humboldt head coach Greg Thomas said. "We are very lucky to get out of town with a tough win.

"It was a real battle in the trenches, and we played some good defense, as well."

Jaxon Heinz was 9-for-11 passing for 112 yards, connecting three times each with Austin Zylstra and Alex Nelson. Zylstra had 44 yards, Nelson had 38.

For the Wildcat defense, Ross had 12 tackles, Adam Mickelson recovered a fumble, and both Heinz and Tony Nielson grabbed interceptions.

For the Titans (0-2), Cody Schoop had 104 yards rushing and Rylan Richardson recorded 14 tackles.

NEWELL - Fourth-ranked Newell-Fonda picked up a 73-0 victory over Kingsley-Pierson on Friday night.

Dillon Anderson had a big night for the Mustangs (2-0 overall) accounting for four touchdowns.

Anderson rushed for two touchdowns. He also caught a 60-yard touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 68 yards for a score.

Brady Bohe rushed for 151 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Dalton Anderson had a 40-yard touchdown catch from Brady Dicks.

Bryce Nelson returned an interception 11 yards to paydirt.

Lynx pull out win

GILBERT - The Webster City defense stepped up to the challenge Friday night, shutting down Gilbert and earning an 18-6 victory.

Ben Mossman caught two touchdown passes from Trey Tesdahl from 35 and 13 yards out, the latter of which came on a fourth-down pass.

All three of Tesdahl's completions on the night went to Mossman for 57 yards.

Connor Larson had 108 yards rushing on 22 carries and a score for the Lynx (2-0 overall).

Gilbert (1-1) managed just 86 yards rushing on 42 carries.

Bush leads Cougars

GOWRIE - Alex Bush accounted for four touchdowns and almost 300 yards of total offense in lifting Manson Northwest Webster past Prairie Valley Friday night, 55-8.

Bush was 13 of 24 for 207 yards passing and a touchdown, while adding 89 yards rushing and three scores.

He found the end zone for the Cougars (2- overall) on 17-, 25- and 47-yard runs.

Braden Moser was the main target for Bush, hauling in four passes for 101 yards, including a 17-yard TD.

Payton Rice added a rushing touchdown, while Lucas Dolder (50-yard interception return) and Ty Condon (62-yard fumble recovery) each had defensive scores.

Austin Promes had the lone score for the Warriors (0-2).

Cowboys run past Eagles

CLARION - The Clarion-Goldfield football team pitched a 42-0 shutout over Eagle Grove here Friday night.

Zach Pogge ran nine times for 149 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard score for the Cowboys (1-1 overall).

Trenton Sann added 66 yards on the ground, which included a 45-yard TD. He also connected with Spencer Peterson on a 34-yard touchdown strike.

Joel Haberman added a touchdown and 51 yards rushing on just five carries.

Eagle Grove is 0-2 on the year.

Eagle quarterback Jake Wilde suffered a season ending injury after breaking his clavicle.

Wilde rushed five times for 23 yards and was 2-for-3 passing for 52 yards with a long of 44 to Jeremy Weber.

Garrigan gets back on track

ALGONA - The Bishop Garrigan football team got back on track with a 34-12 victory over North Union here Friday night.

The Golden Bears (1-1 overall) scored 20 quick first half points, finishing the night with 263 yards rushing.

Ben Vaske led the attack with 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Brayton Loss added 82 and a score.

Reece Wadle had 51 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Connor Langerman had 40 and a score.

Wadle also passed for 41 yards, including two receptions by Vaske.

Garrigan's defense was led by David Klein and Loss, who each had interceptions. Klein also finished with 10 tackles.

Shaw does it all for Bulldogs

ALGONA - Weston Shaw put forth a career-game, passing for 178 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 117 and a score on the ground in a 31-6 victory over Estherville-LC Friday night.

Shaw was 10 of 20 passing, connecting with Justin Raymond four times for 94 yards and a TD. The touchdown strike came from 39 yards out.

Tyler Frideres added 126 yards on the ground and a touchdown catch, as the Bulldog (1-1 overall) defense limited E-LC to just 86 yards rushing.

Noah Arrowood had the other score for Algona.

WB-M upsets defending champs

MARCUS - The seventh-ranked (8-man) West Bend-Mallard football team earned a little revenge Friday night, defeating returning state champion Marcus-MMC on their own field, 28-18.

Last year, No. 5 Marcus-MMC knocked the Wolverines (3-0 overall) out of the playoffs on their way to the first state title in school history.

Raiders get past Pocahontas Area

POCAHONTAS - The East Sac County football team earned a 28-12 victory over Pocahontas Area Friday night.

Sophomore Tyler Case led the Indians (0-2 overall) with 95 yards rushing on 20 carries and two touchdowns.
