M. E. “PETE” PETERSON

LAKE CITY - M.E. "Pete" Peterson was born on October 2, 1928. He was the son of Ralph Lambert Peterson and Plummie Ruth (Peterson) Peterson. Pete attended grade school and high school in Red Oak, Iowa. He loved to play the trumpet and was active in band, orchestra and vocal groups. He also was a member of Civilian Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Pete attended college at Augustana College and transferred to the University of Iowa, where he played in the Hawkeye Marching Band. He was the owner of Peterson Appliance in Red Oak, Iowa before moving to Lake City.

Pete married Sandra Jean Almquist on June 30th, 1957 and they had two children, a son Mark Edward and a daughter Keeley Sue. In 1964, Pete and Sandi moved to Lake City, Iowa. He became sales manager at Bowie Mfg, Inc. and in 1977 purchased the company. Pete is a former Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee for Stewart Memorial Community Hospital. He also has served as past chairman of the Lake City Ambulance Commission, President of the Lake City Kiwanis and Vice-President of the Lake City Development Association. Pete was also a member and president of the Iowa Business Growth Company Board, in addition, Pete was also on the Executive Loan Committee. Pete and Sandi have been members of Pilgrim Lutheran Church since 1967. Pete enjoyed fishing, college football, flying, traveling, and a love and passion for music, specifically the trumpet.

Pete passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie, nephew Sam, and various aunts and uncles. Pete is survived by his wife Sandi, son Mark both of Lake City, daughter Keeley and her husband Steve Sinnard, granddaughters Sommer and Shay Sinnard, and grandson Alek Sinnard all of Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 720 E. Main St., Lake City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church and burial in the Lake City Cemetery. Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.

Memorials may be left to Iowa Hospice or Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
