MANSON - Jim Hoag, age 87, of Twin Lakes, IA, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013. Services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, 10:30 AM at Augustana Lutheran Church, Manson, IA. Visitation will be at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson on Friday, August 9th from 4 to 7 PM.
Jim Hoag was born on May 20th, 1926 in rural Manson, IA to Charles and Mabel (Anderson) Hoag. He attended rural schools and graduated from Manson High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during WWII. He married Shirley Insko on June 22, 1947 in Manson, IA. He graduated from Iowa State College with a degree in General Engineering in 1950.
Jim started working for the Iowa State Highway Commission (Iowa DOT) and spent 33 years in various departments. He served as Director of Data Processing Division from 1958-1981. During that time, the DOT acquired its first computer in November 1958. Jim was a member of the Iowa State Engineering Society, served on Mary Greeley Hospital Board in Ames, served on the Sanitary Sewer Board at Twin Lakes, and he was named 1961 Outstanding Boss of the Year by the Ames Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was raised in Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson, was a charter member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Ames, and returned to Augustana when he retired at Twin Lakes in 1983.

He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 66 years, daughters Faye (George) Moon of Ames, Marsha Burkhalter of West Des Moines, Grandchildren Collin (Erin) Moon, Karen Moon, Rachel Moon, Erin (Kevin) Gaul, Nathan Burkhalter, Beth (Nick) Middleton, nine great-grandchildren, sister Lois (Lawrence) Becker, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Milton, Sisters Eileen (in infancy) and Nancy (Hoag) Hopp.
Jim enjoyed his grandchildren, playing cards, spending winters in Florida, and driving his children and grandchildren in or behind the boat at Twin Lakes.
