August 6, 2013
Messenger News

Voters in Greene County approved a referendum on gambling Tuesday evening, paving the way for a casino to be built near Jefferson. The vote was 75 percent in favor, with a 57 percent turnout.

Preliminary plans call for a casino to be located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 4 north of Jefferson. Wild Rose Entertainment, which operates casinos in Emmetsburg and Clinton, has expressed interest in the project.

As voters have approved the ballot measure, an application for a casino may be submitted to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
