NEWS: Brenda Vazquez, of Fort Dodge, was a volunteer for Jesus on the Move Ministry and volunteer Spanish interpreter.

SPORTS: The Midwest Toy semi-pro baseball team defeated the Osage Northstars 12-0 at Grundy Center.

Aug. 2, 1988

NEWS: Dr. David Haggard, then superintendent of the Storm Lake Community School District, was named head of the Fort Dodge Community School District.

SPORTS: Former Messenger sports writer James Drew was named sports editor of the Algona Upper Des Moines weekly newspaper.

Aug. 2, 1963

NEWS: Triplets two girls and a boy were born at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge to Robert and Lois Fitzgerald, of Clare. (The boy, Teddy, died on Aug. 4, 1963.)

SPORTS: The Pocahontas Braves won their ninth victory without a loss by downing Estherville 3-0.
