Four area players have been selected to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star series, which was announced on Tuesday.
Fort Dodge's Tyler Vaughn, St. Edmond's David Flattery, Prairie Valley's Trey Kehoe and Bishop Garrigan's John Burns will all compete in the event set for Aug. 8-11 at both Principal Park and West Des Moines Valley.
Vaughn was chosen as a pitcher on the large school west squad after going 7-4 with 64 strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA in 69 innings of work.
Flattery will be an outfielder on the small school west team. This past season, Flattery batted .323 with 30 hits, 21 RBI and 18 runs.
Kehoe, who was picked as a pitcher on the small school west squad, was 10-2 with a 1.64 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings.
Burns, an outfielder on the small school west team, posted a .398 average with 49 hits, 36 runs and 31 driven in.
Ezra Reiners - the son of former Fort Dodge and Iowa Hawkeye quarterback Randy Reiners - also landed on the large school east squad as an outfielder for Iowa City West.
Reiners, who will be a preferred walk-on on the Iowa State football team, batted .374 with 50 runs, 46 hits and 28 RBI.
