SPORTS: Eagle Grove beat St. Edmond 7-1 in a Class 2A district semifinal baseball game.

NEWS: Dr. John A. Gazaway, an optometrist in Eagle Grove, was elected vice president of the American Optometric Association.

SPORTS: Scott Swansen won The Messenger Men's City Golf Tournament with a five-under part 139 in 36 holes when lightning and heavy rain caused an early end to the tournament.

NEWS: Alvin Carlson, a former Peace Corps member who served in Cameroon, was the guest speaker at the Wa Tan Ye Club luncheon meeting.
