The Community Health Center of Fort Dodge has received a federal grant to pay for helping uninsured residents get signed up for coverage options under the federal health care reform law.
The $73,663 award was announced Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat.
The health center, 126 N. 10th St., provides medical and dental care to patients, with fees based on the individual's ability to pay. It was established in 2006.
''Community health centers play a critical role in Iowa, providing health care for thousands who lack adequate health insurance,'' Harkin said in a written statement.
''They are a lifeline to Iowans who may have lost a job or are struggling to recover from the economic downturn and provide imperative services for people who need medical care and have nowhere else to turn.''
