Iowa State University President Steven Leath will visit Fort Dodge Monday to talk about Iowa State's role in economic development and the programs ISU offers to businesses.

He will speak from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Iowa State University Extension office, 217 S. 25th St., C12. Reservations are required. They can be made by calling Emily Mason at the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, 955-5500.

"The Growth Alliance is really excited to host President Leath in Fort Dodge. There are a tremendous amount of linkages between our industries from ISU's world-class animal science program to the agricultural sciences and especially their engineering programs," said Dennis Plautz, chief executive officer of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance. "Iowa State University is a breeding ground for our future work force needs."

Trained as a plant scientist, Leath served at three universities in teaching, research and economic development posts before becoming ISU president on Jan. 16, 2012. Leath began his academic career at the University of Illinois, Urbana, as an extension plant pathologist.
