No extra time was needed for the St. Edmond softball team here Friday on Strike Out Cancer Night.

Coming off two straight extra-inning games in as many days, the No. 4 (Class 2A) Gaels (17-4 overall, 11-1 in the North Central Conference) made quick work of Clarion-Goldfield in an 11-1 five-inning decision at Rogers Sports Complex.

SEHS pounded out 10 hits in the game, including two each from Jaci Stumpf, Allie Oberg and Megan Flattery. Oberg, a cleanup hitter and first baseman, also scored twice and contributed a RBI, while Flattery drove in two and crossed the dish once. Clare Flattery added two runs scored, and Stumpf notched a RBI and stolen base.

"I thought we had a pretty good night, and it was nice to get some of our younger girls some more experience," St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt said. "We had a lot of different people step up and get the job done for us. We still have a long way to go, but we're right on pace with where we want to be."

Amanda Lansman (5-1) went the distance in the win for the Gaels, scattering five hits and one earned run. The sophomore right-hander didn't walk a batter and fanned eight. She has now posted 42 strikeouts and yielded 39 hits in 43 innings of work on the season.

"Amanda threw another great game (Friday)," said Hunt. "She was hitting all her spots and mixing up speeds very well."

Despite allowing only one earned run, Hannah Kapka (1-1) took the loss in just her second varsity appearance in the circle.

Playing for the fifth consecutive night, the Gaels were able to overcome three defensive miscues.

"Every team has a week or two in the summer where they play a lot of softball in a little amount of time," Hunt said. "We've got a really mentally strong team, though, that was just itching to get back out there after (Thursday's 4-3 11-inning setback at Greene County)."

Dating back to the 2007 campaign, St. Edmond has prevailed in 14 consecutive meetings against Clarion-Goldfield.

Next action for the Gaels is Monday at Clear Lake. In their previous encounter this year, SEHS rolled to a 12-1 five-inning triumph over the Lions.
