Burglars ransacked the American Red Cross Training Facility in Fort Dodge sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning and made off with a vehicle and electronic equipment, according to a leader of the organization.
The break-in will not hurt the ability to provide services, said Bob Kirschbaum, a resource officer for the American Red Cross in northwestern Iowa.
''The Red Cross is here to help people, so it's disappointing,'' he said Friday afternoon.
Volunteers will clean up the building at 20 N. 16th St. this weekend, he said.
''We really dislike the fact that we have to use volunteer time to do that,'' he said. ''Our volunteers have more productive things to do.''
According to Kirschbaum, someone got into the building by throwing a rock through a window. Once inside, he said, they vandalized the building and spilled bleach around. He said a sport utility vehicle, a television and a computer were stolen. The vehicle was found in Fort Dodge, he said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Dodge Police Department.
