Stepping out of league play, the St. Edmond baseball team continued to make strides in a positive direction here Tuesday night.

Behind a balanced offensive attack, the Gaels (7-9 overall) downed Pocahontas Area by a 10-8 final at Rogers Sports Complex, extending their winning streak to four straight games.

SEHS, which rallied from a pair of early deficits, collected 11 hits from eight different players. The Gaels also notched a season-high 10 stolen bases.

"At times we looked ok offensively, but other times we seemed to be fighting things a little at the plate and not getting our hands through the (strike) zone quick enough," SEHS head coach Joe Shanks said. "A long time ago, I learned from a coach that you have to play with a relaxed control, which is something I didn't think we always did (last night)."

Hank Crimmins, David Flattery and Robert Flattery all recorded a pair of hits for the Gaels. Crimmins, David Flattery and Aaron Chalstrom each scored twice, while Robert Flattery drove in three and David Flattery had two RBI. Robert Flattery and Tommy Setterdahl both swiped two bags.

Colin Flattery (1-0) posted his first varsity win in relief, allowing two hits and one earned run over 1 2/3 innings of work. He walked one and fanned five, while helping his own cause at the plate with a RBI single for St. Edmond's last tally of the contest.

"Colin's got a very nice curveball that he's able to throw over (the plate)," said Shanks. "The whole key is being able to get ahead in the count."

Brandon Hersom went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Indians (3-13), while Jake Kopriva chipped in a double and crossed the dish twice. Aaron Youngberg also knocked in four, including a clutch two-out, bases-loaded, game-tying double to deep right field in the sixth. Ryan Grebner added a two-run single.

"Give credit to (Pocahontas Area) for making some plays and never giving up," Shanks said. "This was the type of game that a week ago we might not have been confident enough to come back and win. It was encouraging to see us pull through late."

Defensively, Chalstrom also made a nifty running catch from his second base position on a fly ball to short right field in the fifth.

Looking to stay on a roll, the Gaels host North Central Conference rival Eagle Grove this evening. The Indians also return to action at Storm Lake St. Mary's.
