Staying right near the top of the North Central Conference standings, the St. Edmond softball team blanked Bishop Garrigan by a 5-0 count Thursday at Rogers Sports Complex.
Senior Katie Donnelly tossed a one-hitter in the circle for the No. 6 (Class 2A) Gaels (8-2 overall, 4-1 NCC). Donnelly (5-2) didn't walk a batter and fanned six.
"I thought Katie had another good performance (Thursday)," SEHS head coach Paul Hunt said. "She's been very consistent for us so far this season."
Leadoff batter Jaci Stumpf went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored for the Gaels, while Iowa Central recruit Josie Heesch crushed a three-run longball - the 27th of her career.
Donnelly also helped her own cause with two RBI at the plate. Allie Oberg added a double.
"It was nice to see Josie break out and have a big hit for us," said Hunt. "Anytime you can score four runs in an inning, it really helps you relax more defensively."
