The trial of Kirk R. Levin began Monday with jury selection.

Levin, 21, of Early, is accused of killing his mother at her Early farmhouse in January and kidnapping a 21-year-old Storm Lake woman the same day. The case was moved to Webster County late last month.

About 60 potential jurors packed the main courtroom at the Webster County Courthouse to be questioned by prosecutors and defense about their ability to be fair during the case.

During the morning, Assistant Iowa Attorney General Doug Hammerand questioned a group of 32 about their knowledge of the case, whether they could keep an open mind and listen to the facts and if they knew anybody involved.

Jury selection is expected to continue at 1:15 p.m. following a lunch break. Levin's attorney, Charles Kenville, will question the potential jurors this afternoon.
