The Fort Dodge Noon Kiwanis honored 560 Fort Dodge elementary students with Bring Up Grades, or BUG, awards. Students recognized included 204 from Butler, 119 from Cooper, 118 from Duncombe and 119 from Feelhaver.
BUG is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades. Recognition includes being placed on the school's BUG Honor Roll, a certificate and pencil. A vinyl banner will also be hung in each school as recognition of the partnership between the Kiwanis and the schools.
First- through fourth-grade students at the four Fort Dodge Community Schools were recognized for improving their reading scores on the Dibels test. Each student who improved his or her score by at least one point from the first to second time the test was administered this year was given a BUG award.
"The BUG awards are a fun way to recognize and motivate the kids to continue to be leaders through academic achievement," Robert Hughes, FDCSD assistant superintendent, said. "We're grateful to the Kiwanis for providing this recognition for our students."
