POCAHONTAS - Turning in a dominant performance, the No. 7 (Class 2A) St. Edmond softball team coasted to an 11-0 five-inning victory over Pocahontas Area Thursday night.
Jaci Stumpf, Allie Oberg and Jessica Kuebler each collected two hits for the Gaels (2-0 overall), who erupted for seven runs in the third inning. SEHS finished with 10 hits in the game, including triples from Stumpf and Kuebler and a double by eighth-grader Maggie Harvey.
"We came out really strong with the bats right away," said St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt. "We have a very balanced offense. As coaches, the toughest challenge is trying to find 12 girls some playing time."
Amanda Lansman (1-0) went the distance in the circle for the Gaels, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts.
SEHS welcomes North Central Conference foe Hampton-Dumont for its 2013 home opener on Tuesday. The Indians (0-3) host Emmetsburg that same night.
