ROCKWELL CITY - Veronica M. Schmit 81, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Regency Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Brian J. Danner officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with a Parish Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil for the deceased at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Veronica is survived by her children, Phil (Patty) Schmit of Rockwell City, Mary Kay (Mike) Townsend of Iowa City, Tom (Peg) Schmit of Jefferson, and John (Joleen) Schmit of Rockwell City; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Isabel (Wayne) Smith of Jefferson, Mary Ann (Robert) Wagner of Fort Myers, FL and Patricia (Tom) Twait of Emmetsburg; brother John E. (Mary Jeanne) Kacmarynski of Sturgeon Bay, WI; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Kacmarynski of Emmetsburg, and Dolores Kacmarynski of West Bend; and very special caregivers, Patty Walters and Shirley Burd, both of Rockwell City. She was preceded in death by her husband Emmet; sons, Lawrence and Michael J. Schmit; grandson Michael T. Schmit; her parents, John Joseph and Mary Sarah Olsen Kacmarynski; and brothers, Bernard and Phillip Kacmarynski.

Veronica Marie Kacmarynski Schmit was born August 29, 1931 at Mallard, Iowa. She graduated from Mallard High School, with the Class of 1949. Veronica attended St. Mary's College of Nursing in Rochester, MN. She later received a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. On November 8, 1952 she was united in marriage to Emmet R. Schmit at Mallard, and the couple made their home in Rockwell City. Veronica worked as a nurse for 52 years, retiring at the age of 72 years. Emmet passed away in 2002. Veronica was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and enjoyed her many bridge clubs in Rockwell City and Fort Dodge.
