HUTCHINSON, Kansas - The Iowa Central women's track team final achieved their goal, winning the NJCAA outdoor national championship.
The Tritons claimed five first place finishes, a year after finishing as a runner up. The women finished with 143 points, while South Plains was second with 133
The men finished second after finishing fifth last season.
Fiona McKenna claimed two golds, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:11.99) and the 5,000 (18:18.33).
Also winning was Ebeissa Nyandwi (37:59.76 in 10,000), Chantal Duncan (54.41 in the 400-meter dash) and Dominique Kimpel (23.28 in 200-meter dash).
Jodi Miller and Fiona Masai went second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Iowa Central 4x400 team of Kianna Carter, Jessica James, Kimpel and Duncan captured gold in 3:39.94.
The Triton 4x800 squad of Agata Klimovich, Adriana Woletz, Bianca Burrell and Margaret Wilmot-Francis finished second.
Finishing second for the Tritons was Lauren Smith (discus), Hannah Maina (1,500) and Kimpel (100-meter dash).
Alex Deir won two gold medals for the Tritons. Deir claimed gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the Triton men in a time of 9:23.10. He was also champion in the 1,500 (3:51.40),
Also winning for the Tritons were Xaivier McAllister in the high jump (6-11.75).
Kevin White, Charles Carrington, Zach Gearman and Kuaniyal Chol were second in the 4x800-meter relay.
Micah Washington was second for the Tritons in the high jump.
