A man looks over two damaged trucks that were involved in an accident Wednesday at the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and South 12th Street. According to Fort Dodge Police Sgt. Matt Lundberg, the Blue Ribbon Pelham Waters truck had a green light when it was going southbound on 12th Street. At the same time, the dump truck, which had a red light in the westbound lane of Fifth Avenue South, had its brakes fail and it rolled into the intersection, according to Lundberg. The driver of the Blue Ribbon truck had a cut on his forehead and was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center for his injury. The driver of the smaller truck had a bump on his head, but wasn’t complaining of any other injury. Names of those involved were not immediately available Wednesday. The accident caused westbound traffic to be reduced to one lane, and eastbound traffic was backed up to the Kenyon Road Bridge. The accident itself caused “major property damage,” according to Lundberg, which included a smashed phone box and a traffic light that fell off the pole. The Fort Dodge Fire Department and MidAmerican Energy also responded to the scene.
