The first arriving Barnum firefighters prepare to battle a house fire Thursday afternoon at 1750 200th Street.
"She went to the house and it was full of smoke," he said. "She couldn't get in."
They were able to rescue one of their dogs, but Whitehill said he believed another one died inside the home.
Arriving Barnum and Clare firefighters found flames shooting from the second story windows of the home.
It took them about an hour to get the blaze under control.
A live power line arced where it had fallen across the road after detaching from the home.
Neighbors and family friends also arrived and helped remove what appeared to be photo albums from the trailer home located next to the burning house. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to it and other nearby structures.
Barnum firefighters were called to the scene about 5:50 p.m. Units on the scene requested water trucks from Clare at 6:15 p.m.
The Webster County Sheriff's Department was also on the scene. The cause remains under investigation.
