The fight against Alzheimer's disease should be a concern to all Americans. According to the Alzheimer's Association, this debilitating ailment is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and the fifth leading cause here in the Hawkeye State. Roughly 5.2 million Americans of all ages are currently afflicted with this devastating disease.
On Sunday, area residents have a chance to join the battle against Alzheimer's while also enjoying some terrific music.
For the second year, A Concert to Remember is being held in Fort Dodge. It will take place at the Best Western Starlite Village Inn and Suites, 1518 Third Ave. N.W. This event is being held in memory of local musician and caregiver Dean Morris. The funds raised at the concert will benefit the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Iowa Chapter.
This eight-hour concert - beginning at 2 p.m. and running until 10 p.m. - will feature exceptional talent, super music and outstanding camaraderie. The seven bands this year are Beaver Creek, Cody McClintock, Brutal Republic, MGcc, Mudd Jugg, Planet Rock and Wheelhouse. Anyone who purchases a ticket will be allowed to come and go. Attendees are free to enjoy just one of the bands or stay for the whole day.
There will be more than just music and good company. Also featured will be Buford's BBQ, a live auction, a raffle and commemorative T-shirts. Discounted rooms are available at the hotel for people wishing to stay overnight.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They can be purchased online or at the Alzheimer's Association, Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota, Fort Dodge Hy-Vee or Shimkat Motors.
