The Fort Dodge Evening Lions Club will be holding a bike ride Saturday to benefit diabetes.

The first Lions Bike Ride for Diabetes will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Bob Heun Shelter at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park north of Fort Dodge.

Two rides will take place with a 25 mile ride beginning at 8 a.m. and a 10 mile ride at 9 a.m. A kids fun ride will be at 8:30 a.m. at the park.

The 25-mile ride will begin at Kennedy Park and travel south on the trail to County Road D14 and west to Orchard Road and the Community Orchard. The ride will then go to Badger and back south on P59 to D14 and will return to the park on the trail.

The 10-mile ride will begin at the trail in the park and proceed south to the intersection of 31st Avenue North in Fort Dodge and back to Kennedy Park.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Lions Club Diabetes funds, Tim Wilson, an evening Lions member and Iowa Lions state diabetes chairman, said.

"Lions' biggest focus is eyesight, but they do support diabetes," said Wilson said. "One of the main parts of that is their support of Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for kids with diabetes."

The ride will also include informational booths, T-shirts, prizes and lunch, which are included in the registration fee. Cost is $15 for the 10 mile ride and $20 for the 25 mile ride.

"We thought it would be good to have a bike ride to benefit diabetes this year and for years to come," said Wilson. "We hope to see a lot of people out there for the ride."
