State Sen. Daryl Beall said a property tax reform bill passed by the Senate on Monday will help to remove barriers to creating jobs and opening new businesses.
The Fort Dodge Democrat spoke in favor of the bill during Senate debate and later voted for it.
''This legislation cuts commercial property taxes for every Iowa business,'' he said Tuesday. ''This approach cuts taxes from the bottom up, meaning most of the benefit goes to local small business owners, the biggest job creators in Iowa communities.''
''This is the only commercial property tax cut that protects homeowners from an increase in property taxes,'' he added. ''State dollars will replace every property tax dollar that used to go to schools, local governments and community colleges.''
State Sen. Jerry Behn, R-Boone, the other senator representing Webster County, did not respond to a request for comment on the tax measure.
