As a result of directing the St. Edmond girls basketball team to a share of its second straight North Central Conference title, head coach Scott Messerly was recently tabbed CYO Coach of the Year for 2012-13.

The Gaels posted a 19-3 overall mark, including 16-2 in the league. St. Edmond, which was ranked 13th in the final Class 2A poll, saw its season come to an end with a regional quarterfinal setback to Carroll Kuemper.

"We had a very good year, and beat some tough teams," said Messerly, who sports a career mark of 128-48 through his eight years at the helm. "Considering the young group that we had, it was a pretty special season.

"Our girls deserve a lot of the credit."

Messerly was also previously named CYO Coach of the Year following the 2009-10 season. He has now guided the Gaels to 18 wins or more in four consecutive years.
