Fort Dodge police are searching for the driver of a truck that was involved in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday morning that injured a child.

Police Chief Tim Carmody said at 7:45 a.m., an 11-year-old child was riding his bike near the intersection of Second Avenue North and North 12th Street when he was hit by a red truck.

Officers found the child, who was not identified by police, laying on the grass near the sidewalk.

Witnesses told police the truck left the scene by going west on Second Avenue North, according to Carmody. Despite a search of the area, the truck could not be found.

The boy was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was treated and released. Carmody said the child's injuries were not life-threatening.

Carmody said the vehicle that hit the boy was described as a newer model, full-size, 4-door red truck. It had an emblem that said "4x4" on its side.

The truck was also pulling a small, flat utility trailer, which didn't have anything on it at the time of the accident.

License plate information is not available, according to Carmody.

Anyone with information on the accident, or who may know anything about the driver of the truck, is asked to call the Fort Dodge Police Department at 573-1426 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 573-1444. Tips can also be sent to wccrimestoppers.com and by texting LEC and the tip to 274637.
