A home invasion Sunday night has Fort Dodge police looking for three suspects who allegedly broke into a house and shot a dog inside.

Officers responded to 208 Fourth Ave. N. at 11:36 p.m.

According to Police Chief Tim Carmody, three black men forced themselves inside the house and demanded money and property.

Three men were inside the house at the time of the home invasion. One of them, Derek Meadows, 25, was treated at the scene for a cut on his head, and another, Trevor Cook, 22, declined medical treatment after receiving minor injuries.

The third victim, Bryan Stuhrenberg, 23, was not injured.

Carmody said the suspects shot a pitbull that was also inside the house. The dog ran away and was still missing Monday. It's not known how seriously the dog was injured.

The suspects fled the scene after taking what Carmody described as "personal items" from the victims.

Police are trying to identify the three men who took part in the home invasion. Carmody said at this point all officers know is that they were black men who were wearing flat-bill hats.

They were armed with at least one handgun and possibly two knives.

"We believe that there are additional witnesses who have valuable information that would help us bring closure to the victim and his family," Carmody said.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Fort Dodge Police Department at 573-1426 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 573-1444. Tips can also be sent online at wccrimestoppers.com or by texting LEC and the tip to 274637.
