The American Red Cross will be honoring five individuals or groups Thursday for the efforts to make a difference in the life of another or their communities.

The fourth annual Heroes of the Heartland luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Willow Ridge Restaurant and Golf Course,1788 Madison Ave.

Those who will be honored this year are Dr. Lee and Meredith Berryhill, Jeff Burke, Mark Gargano, and Iowa State Patrol troopers Neil Morenz and Mark Anderson.

Honorees, who were nominated, have done various things to make an impact.

"We try to honor our everyday heroes. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things," said Bob Kirschbaum, Red Cross chapter support officer. "These are people right in our own backyards who are great role models."

Whether they have saved a life or are active in the community, they are honored for their contributions to their communities.
